This painting is about starting to heal from one of the hardest years of my life.
The fire horse is a year known for intensity, for burning through what's no longer meant for you.
For me, it was the end of my 20s, picking up all sorts of new responsibility, and a terrible first home-buying experience which has shaken my sense of safety and has me redefining what home means.
In this piece, a hummingbird represents savoring what's sweet even when life is feeling chaotic. Traditionally, hummingbirds resemble resilience and adaptability - two things I needed so much of to get through this year.
The horse is present, but not burning or walking. The horse is covered, tended to, and is finally done carrying so, so much much. Here, there is growth, movement, and moving forward.
